A guest lecture for students of the specialty “Environmental Protection Technologies” of the Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas

On December 12, 2025, within the framework of the RISE-UP project (101127143 — ERASMUS-JMO-2023-HEI-TCH-RSCH), a guest lecture was delivered by Volodymyra Boichuk, Professor of the Department of Applied Physics and Materials Science, for students majoring in Environmental Protection Technologies at the Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas.
The lecture provided an in-depth overview of the topic “Chornobyl: Causes and Consequences”☢️ focusing on the key factors that led to the Chornobyl nuclear accident as well as its complex short- and long-term impacts. Particular attention was paid to technical and organizational aspects of nuclear safety, the role of the human factor, principles of radiation protection, and the importance of a strong safety culture in the energy sector.
Special emphasis was placed on the long-term effects of the disaster on the environment and public health, as well as on the lessons of Chornobyl that should be taken into account in the education and training of specialists in natural sciences and engineering.
‍ The lecture was held in an interactive format, encouraging active discussion. Participants asked questions, received expert explanations regarding radiation risks and modern approaches to contamination monitoring, and discussed the importance of science-based decision-making for sustainable development.
