The final meeting of the team of the international educational project “RadiatIon Safety: European-Ukrainian APproach” (RISE-UP), No. 101127143, implemented within the European Union’s Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Actions, has taken place.
The meeting marked the concluding stage of the project, which ran from 1 September 2023 to 31 August 2026. RISE-UP was implemented as a Jean Monnet Module.
During the final meeting, the project team reviewed the results of three years of joint work, assessed the implementation of the planned activities and summarised the overall outcomes of the project. The team confirmed that the planned tasks had been successfully completed and the project objectives had been achieved.
The principal aim of RISE-UP was to develop a system of multidisciplinary knowledge in radiation safety among university students. The educational content combined physical and engineering foundations, biological and medical aspects, radiation hygiene and protection, as well as the regulatory and legal framework for the use of ionising radiation in the context of harmonising Ukrainian regulations with European Union requirements.
A major strength of the project was its multidisciplinary approach. Experts in physics, engineering, medicine, biology and law contributed to the development and implementation of the module, allowing radiation safety to be addressed comprehensively — from the nature of ionising radiation and risk assessment to European regulatory principles.
The project team included Volodymyr Kotsiubynskyi, Volodymyra Boichuk, Liliia Turovska, Taras Parashchuk, and Nadiia Kobetska, whose expertise covered general physical and engineering issues, pedagogical adaptation of complex technical topics, biological and medical aspects of radiation safety, the adaptation of EU technical regulations, and legal aspects of harmonising Ukrainian legislation with EU standards.
RISE-UP was primarily aimed at Master’s and Bachelor’s students, while its wider target audience also included teachers, researchers, representatives of the educational community, local authorities, civil society activists and other stakeholders interested in radiation safety.
The completion of RISE-UP marks not only the formal end of the project cycle but also the culmination of systematic work aimed at creating a modern educational framework in radiation safety. The results achieved provide a solid basis for the continued use of the developed teaching materials, further development of interdisciplinary education, strengthening the European dimension of academic programmes, and continued cooperation in radiation and energy safety
